What about Diesel? It penetrates into O-ring or not?
Hey Ryan... thanks for the enlightenment. However diesel fuel is a solvent and cheaper than Kero. So how about doing your test with diesel. Cheers, Alan
People who test on animals when developing anything other than crucial medicine are straight trash
After cleaning can we use any chain lube ?
I like how thorough he is with the experiment and simple enough to understand and it's not even that long of a video. Cool & informative.
what about soaking 24 hrs
What about diesel/petrol???
Is petrol/diesel is good for cleaning chain ? I saw many bikers clean their bike chain with petrol/diesel. Please do answer if anyone knows .
Hi, what do you think anout using silicone spray as a cleaner and possibly a lubricant also ? I have some concerns it may seep past the rubber 'O'. rings. Thanks
Excellent

Dude i think a good part of your viewers are from India 🇮🇳..... and the problem is most of the products that you pick for comparison is not available in India neither offline nor online.... so please do pick the brands for test that are available globally like motul,loquimoli,shell,wd40 etc....
Test is a bit flawed, 1: Everyone scrubs their chain after spraying, and you sprayed it from too great a distance. All that did was effectively mist the chain, so keeping that test among the results isn't fair. 2: Party balloons are made out of a multitude of materials not just rubber, so using them as a comparison for o-rings which can be made from PTFE, Nitrile, Neoprene, or Viton which are tougher materials isn't fair. 3: The main flaw with this test is that you're using what equates to a piece of aluminum foil. I have no doubt that deformed upon torquing allowing small passages to form and letting the cleaner leak out. There's no way an o-ring friendly cleaner would instantly eat through and penetrate an o-ring like that. For example, we saw that Kerosene, Oxford, and Maxima couldn't pop a super thin (supposedly rubber) balloon, yet could penetrate a thick o-ring instantly? And vice versa, WD-40 could pop a super thin balloon so we'd expect it to eat and penetrate an o-ring right? Wrong apparently. It also isn't fair since you're not supposed to submerge the chain in cleaner, actually most cans will tell you not to over saturate the chain. Also you're mistaking penetration (giggity) for degradation, just because it leaks does not mean it's eating the o-ring. Just giving the chain link a spritz of cleaner and immediately scrubbing as intended is going to do no harm. Just some things I noticed that would affect the integrity of this test.
Could you post a link to the test that you referred to at 7:52 I was going to do my own test, but this might save me time.
The #1 ingredient in muc-off is kerosene. cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1320/6923/files/Muc-Off_Chain_Cleaner_950-1_..pdf?8776388351775347085 #1 ingredient in Ipone is Butane... something is amiss on this test
WD-40 only costs 5$ in your country? wow.... Here it costs almost 40 Reais (Almost 10 $)... and isn't even that good... And I HAVE TO ASK: Soap is bad to use as a chain cleaner? If we use a brush, it really gets so clean and shinny... no joke
Is ipone discontinued? sold out everywhere lol. Or is it because of this video lol
I have never cleaned the chain on my ETZ250. I just applied grease every 2500km as per the manual. I am on my second chain, first one did 128,000km and was still just OK. (Not O ring chain)
the most expensive cleaner sold by fortnine "won"? I'm shocked!
I use paint thinner to degrease my chain is it good??
Motorex! Representing Langenthal, Switzerland all over the World.
This channel is the bikers Bible!
That ipone brand is an H away from a lawsuit
Its all foreign to me. Which one is better lol
Raise your hand if you never use chain cleaner, only lube. Not to make it roll smoother, but to prevent rust.
Why Am I watching this my scooter has a CVT
Ipone not available in usa
How are you sure that the torque you use hier 6:55 simulate exactly a real chain? Perhaps the o-ring of a chan are much more pressed, and probably no one of the cleaning solution can go throw them.
Thank you Fortnine, good video, and good information too... ;)
Lubricant and cleaner for Kawasaki 1987 KD80, plain chain.
Why my 2015 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 manual says "Do not use a volatile solvent such as paint thinner, kerosine and gasoline" then? But 80% of youtube videos suggest to use kerosine...
have you ever tried brake cleaner? it's efective and it won't damage your o-rings
I think that SG has the lowest environmental impact. Non aerosol, citrus based and available in gallon jugs. It works well as a general degreaser to clean the snot off your bikes as well. Great test 👍👍
Pa ting!
Biting my tongue as a chemist who designs rubber and O-Rings for a living. But I love your content and commend you!
Informative, Entertaining, Funny, Fuk yeah!
No rubber on my chain. It’s the good ol soak in wd 40 then 3 in 1 after
I dunno if I'm wrong, but brake and parts clearer on my chain. Then some thrity Champion (famous for spark plugs) brand chain lube applied then gently wiped off
Fantastic!
Fcked again with what I purchased 😬I hate watching this guy 💩
I would think if kerosene is getting past your o-rings then water would also because the viscosity (thickness) of water is lower.
Motul is only available at my location. I use small bikes in India. Will motul c1 amd c2 be safe to use?
Turns out kerosene which is most recommended and popular cleaning stuff is big no no for cleaning? If it penetrates trough O ring seal it means it wash out factory chain lube and that's' it?
Would you use diesel to clean your O ring chain?
I found this today, better late then pregnant! Looks like I will going out and buying some Ipone Chain Cleaner. I ride Quads, pretty much the same applies to quads as motorcycle chains. Well, well...living in United States of America seems that I can not get this product, oh I can get it, but at 70 plus dollars a can, not going to happen. I'll stick with w-d 40.
RYAN TEACH US HOW TO USE THESE CHAIN CLEANERS CAUSE THEY HELLA EX, I used nearly a whole can when I first cleaned to even see a clean chain.
Great video, thanks!
You can’t find Ipone in the states lol
linustechtips but on motorcycle
Just found this video. I am truly grateful for your time and dedication to bringing out this information. My manual recommends using karosene to clean my DID O ring chain. Likely causing the internal grease to wash out. This information is invaluable. Thank you!
I use soap water to clean
How often did you do the seal penetration test? One penetrated seal can have multiple causes.
Was that a little dig at neutral Switzerland 🤣
I’ve always used brake cleaner. It works instantly. Then I lube it and go. Never had a problem except the mess.
How about deiesel?
Works fine the same as kerosene.
I use Simple Green and a grunge brush. I'll stay with it because I use it to clean other stuff in the house and shed. Glad it is O-ring safe.
I just use diesel & a brush, no lube afterwards.
Balloons are not the same as o rings. Kinda disappointed you went for that. The rubber in a balloon likely wasnt made to deal with things like wd-40 whereas a chain o-ring, is meant to be soaked in oil constantly as well as kerosene and other harsh chemicals. You really should know better. And after continuing your video you show that duh, the results are completly different. I guess you just wanted to show the wd-40 balloon popping trick. Fair enough.
maximum effort. thank you.
what's your dilution rate for simple green?
Easy, diesel fuel or kerosene
Motorex was my favourite grease by far , happy to see the cleaner is ok 😃😃😃
This was a great test and value-add video. Thank you!
Fk... I’ve been using Kerosene all this time. It’s super cheap at $12/4L... Guess I’m going to have get new chain cleaners. 🤨
WD40 doesnt really have that much lubrication, silicon spray would be better for that
But can't I just use diesel to clean my o-ring chain? Somfing less to carry on my ADV ride.
Yes. Diesel is kerosene, but perhaps not consumable. 1K (clear like water) kerosene is the same chemical as diesel and you can drink it in small doses to cure a variety of ailments.
Is IPONE marketed under a different name in the US???
can you said wich is the best chain cleaner please?
A silly circus 🎪 🐒
Hi for cleaning my motorbike chain I use the engine cleaner from Whürt
WD_40 costs 100 dollars here in Lebanon and most of these stuff we don't have here
Can you even find Ipone in the US? If not, I guess my only choice is Simple Green...
I wonder how diesel would pass in this test.Too bad you didn't add him to this test too. i clean my chain with diesel, and only problem is because diesel are greasy, and I spend more time to remove diesel from chain.
Use haigt presure waser very easy and chep bro
I hope you're not full of shit ey, because I really dig your videos. Buying your merch and supporting your cause. Thank you for such informative videos ey.
Can anyone link a place to get kerosene pls
i clean my chain in scot oiler then oil it with clean scot oiler
Don't have that much time... Which is the best anyone guys??
Great video. Sticking with Muc-off
Flawless job, man.
Bruh this shit is fake as fuck just a company sporsoring there garbage of course they could make there highest bidder win lol would trust a word these fake ass ppl says
Where can I get ipone chain cleaner in the US?
So, after having watched both of these totally excellent videos (chain clean, chain lube), for the bargain shoppers amongst us, it's WD-40 to clean (because most importantly, it does not penetrate the O or X rings), and gear oil for lube? That is great info. And here I used to clean my X-ring chains with kerosene, on the regular. Not no mo. Thanks Ryan and crew, this is news we can use.
I would like to see a comparison of shaft, belt, and chain final drive on adventure bikes.
How about diesel?
D.I.D say not to use kerosene
Diesel or kerosene are the better chep way to clean your chain ..make sure to wash it with soap water after that
🇲🇦❤👍🤗 thank!
Simple advertising for a Canadian company. Gives one recommendation with no runner up and leaves everyone else high and dry cause we can’t even purchase Ipone outside of Canada
Is there a second best option? We can’t get this here in the US
It's so weird how Muc-Off does well on the spray test, but awful on the scrub test.
I wish I could find the Ipone in the United States. I just got back from picking up kerosene as recommended by another channel. Will using it once ruin the lifespan of the chain?
my choice is a gimbal. but this was actually very instructive in case I ever change to the chain. :) Greetings from Russia!
By god you come out with some crackin lines you do lad. Suprised am I at some of those results though. I once cleaned the outside of an oil leaking engine with Ecover washing up liquid, went really well. I think I will give that a try. Have to get married first though so I can use the wife's toothbrush.....
Motorcycle chain with or without this kind of all kinds of chemical cleaner.the chain o-ring soon will broken bcuz of wear and tear.the best idea is wipe clean clothes then put some grease after you wipe the dirt.then every 1year change the chain for your own safety.
Good video but you testing methodology for O-ring leak is flawed. To make sure all the O-rings were sealed properly you should have tested with a neutral liquid such as water and then proceeded with the degreasers.
Can you dedicate a video to kerosene and chain cleaning? In this test, you said kerosene immediately leaked past the seals but most old timers I speak to swear by it. Can we question the result of the last test with kerosene given that it didn't pop the balloon? Seems erroneous?
Great video! I bought ipone from this review and it works amazing. Especially when I use the precision spray, I can watch the dirty chain lube fall off so easily.
If Ryan F9 ever joined forces with Project Farm they would RULE THE WORLD
So what chain clean or lube different to oring chain .?
