Riding in hot, stuffy riding gear is one of the worst aspects of motorcycling in the summer. There’s gotta be a better way...

I'm glad scorpion made the pants baggy, not many poeple make pants for guys with big butts. regular cut jeans without out elastic get pulled into my junk or show off my crack.
How do I like this video twice...?
Y'all think I could wear the compression shirt and then a very heavy weight leather jacket(not a riding jacket) for abrasion protection? Would this be the same protection as wearing a riding jacket?
That not-jacket temps me despite being of the "well, I wouldn't want to go out with inadequate protection" mindset. You talked me into it but I'm sure it's noticeably less safe than a jacket, right?
I would press dislike button IF, i could press dislike button.
"Has the fun property of melting into your scrotum at 150° Celsius." That made me laugh out loud. Killer delivery on that line. I'm not sure how you kept a straight face while saying that. 😂
Who knew a Canadian knew so much about summer. Ryan is amazing
I dunno man.. some of my most enjoyable rides are in a tank top, shorts, slippers and no helmet. Around the various places in Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines. On a 125cc scooter to boot.
"Church" 30 seconds later... bong.
0:44 "I could comfortable run a marathon in this thing... if i could run a maraton"
what is a squid
Awesome!
I'd rather have my legs ripped off than wear those ugly ass Scorpion jeans.
NOTHING is going to help you in 40*C+ temps 🙄
"Squids are people too" - Motorcyclists: Yeah we know what you mean. "Squids are people too" - Car drivers: No, they're sea creatures "I could be pregnant & fit, if I could be pregnant". Ryan you have a wonderfully comical way with words
5:38 "which IS nice"
Ryan seems like the person to murder someone and get away with it. Or just a friendly Neighbor
Informative and funny, lovin it.
Squid??
It blows my mind that he is still under 1 million
So ryan, would you actually trust that icon compression shirt in a 80km/h slide? And are there better alternatives for abrasion as far as similar armoured shirts?
If a squid's gonna squid....
"baggy style" those scorpion pants are one step up from skinny jeans... What is this guy talking about? Don't skip leg day and those will be snug.
Awesome! Thank you!
muskokaken would you be able to do a review on vsTAR 650 and the royal enfield 400
5:16 First three rules of handling a fire arm: 1. Keep your finger off the trigger 2. Keep your finger off the trigger 3. Keep your damn finger off the damn trigger.
Did you ever review Draggin Jeans? Ive all the usual ones.
Who else cracked up at 6:01 ... :D :D
And what to buy in europe?
If the elbow wasn't one inch off the edge of the D3O this could have been a great light armour. Depending on a persons arm the D3O can fall off the elbow altogether leaving you completely exposed. Not the smartest design ever is it?
if you could be pregnant jajaja
Are you sponsored here?
No way
I don’t like to nitpick (I’m lying) but Icon could well get their jacket CE approved: “(17092) Classification C covers garments such as the mesh under-suits that have impact protection for off-road riding.” In fact, if they want to sell in the UK or EU I think they must get it certified. I have a similar jacket called the KNOX action shirt but it has CE armour but no abrasion protection. I stopped using it because I found the much better Bull-it airflow suit made entirely of covec (LC polymer) with similar properties to aramid. I ride in Southern Vietnam (tropical weather all year round) so I need good ventilation. Unfortunately, single layer rider jeans, although extremely popular, aren’t very protective. Layering does get hot but not too bad if the ventilation is adequate. Motocap has shown that single layer clothing made of anything (except leather) isn’t any good at impact abrasion. Have you seen single layer jeans passing 13595 level 2 or even the more lenient EN17092 AAA? I haven’t. I’ve got layered jeans PMJ (17092 AAA level, 13595 level 1) and in the tropics they are just fine as long as you keep moving. In my opinion, gear manufacturers are being dishonest that single layer textiles are especially protective. Physics, backed up by testing, shows us that it can’t be. You need one layer to handle the impact, then another to handle the slide. Just look at GP suits or even much older leather suits. They almost always have multiple layers at the impact zones. That being said, I just wish people would wear some protective gear beyond a helmet. Where I live, 99.999% are squids.
Just did the bmw enduro course in the icon, husteling the 1250 gs is hot work but the icon jacket made it bareble.
How the hell this channel continues producing quality, interesting material, leaving manufacturers brochures aside, with technical data that could make the world fall in boredom, without a single soul getting bored, is something beyond any imagination. Congrats Ryan F9 and Fort Nine. You guys really dig what really matters
Bought an MT 03 and a alpinestars dry star v2 jacket. Man I’ve been baking all freakin summer lol. Got it because it matched. Didn’t think things through 😂
I just ordered an Icon shirt. Hope I didn’t waste 150 frog pelts.
I can't lie man, I am a squid, after watching 30 of your very beautiful made videos, I started to consider buying a leather jacket
I think that supermoto equiment is good for summer 😁
Riding jeans in summer?! I could never where I live haha it's either mesh or die. The icon shirt could work, but it's ugly af
How about women’s gear? Come on try it
Ryan is the Vsauce of motorcycles
I liked the recommendation about the glasses, but not having protection for the nose is irrational, as a motorcyclist who has had stones thrown against the helmet I know the damage it would do to my face if I were not wearing a closed full face helmet.
Get your goddamn booger hook off the bang switch
Can we see these motorcycle safety gear manufacturers marketing departments, show us videos of themselves testing the gear that they are trying to sell us on themselves first?
This channel is so underrated
I think we need gear tested down here in TX to know what really works though
6:13 haha, what a story, ryan!
👍
I almost DIED from wearing Leather in South Dakota one year....boiling hot, NO luggage space on my bike......I was trying to be a "hardcore safety nazi"....and it was the BIGGEST mistake I ever made......if air is muggy, I wear a T-shirt.....I don't give a Fuck what anyone says, life is TOO short to worry and play "what-if" every time you ride........I bought a motorcycle to Enjoy life, not Take away from the enjoyment and turn it into some kind of lame "safety competition".....if air is moving, I can do leather, if Not....Not making that mistake again.
Ventilation? Don't care. ATGATT.
A+ Quality content. I would expect nothing else from F9
Are you receiving my communication??
Can those glasses be customized for people with visual problems specifically they actually need regular glasses all the time I need some thing Different than my regular glasses for when I ride and when I shoot and I don’t mind spending a bit of money to get what I need
02:40 God dammit. I thought we were finally getting the F9 video we were all hoping for 👀
Need to work on your trigger discipline.
UHMWPE Fiber (Dyneema) has a really low coefficient of friction (COF) also Fiber on Fiber, hydrophobic (very low water absorption), Good UV tolerance. Para-Aramids (Kevlar, Twaron etc) Doesn`t do well here. UV and water absorption of Aramid degrade the fiber properties alot.
Dainese also have jeans with the aramid woven into the cotton. They are warmer than usual jeans but better than most other "layered" trousers.
yeah but those riding shirts look super douchey thats the problem
I'd love to see a video on airbag vests in this context. Seems like combining one with the field armor shirt would give a reasonable protection compromise.
I wear stuntman "underwear" all the time in case I trip and fall down the stairs, heat ain't got nothing on me
I got unsubscribed... LTworlds probably trying to block you from hitting 1m. congrats btw ur a mad creator
Netcube jacket by Zandona, made in Italy. I think it's better than that
I’m 5,10” and 225lb. Should I get an XL or a 2XL??
Hot during the summer, but still want full gear protection? Simple... live in Canada eh.
I really like the look of the armored shirt, and I totally buy the logic of how the armor can work and be missed by the standards (those being a kind of lowest common denominator). Apparently, these are not available, so I contacted ICON, and received a help response, that these will once again be in stock come mid-August.
yeah man i hear you but.. in the summertime shorts and T-shirt also do the job ;-))
Big fan, but please finger off the trigger!!!! even if it is a water gun.
2:42, I died laughing!
6:03 Oh nooooooo..... This is the reason I watch your videos even though I live in India.
“IF.. I could be pregnant”
Take a look at dyneema also. Pando Moto is offering something similar, leggings with stretch, venting and abrasion (dyneema) + hardshell armour, and the pants/leggings would fit under a pair of jeans. (using Levis 527 stretch, bootcut myself) - cause kevlar/aramid is warm as all hell. Saving up for the leggings, and then the Pando Moto jacket/shirt. Could be used under any regular clothing, and is breathing in the right spots. (Actually Pando Moto could send me a pair of leggings for sticking my neck out here :) )
I'd much rather have a mesh jacket than that Icon vest.
I’m looking into getting a dashcam for my bike any suggestions?
Why not buy a mesh jacket with armour? It's perfect in our hot Australian climate...the tight fitting armoured shirt looked very clingy and hot. Maybe in a Canadian summer? Keep up the good work Ryan.
That icon is hidios. I'd go with knox armors equivalent every time. Thanks for all the insight as always Ryan
I bought the Field Armor pants when they first came out and was very disappointed. The D3O is so thin that one of the panels split it two. I’ll stick with my oxymoronic mesh jacket and I’ll suffer the lack of breathability of Kevlar lines jeans.
I appreciate the sly humor in this
LMAO THIS DUDE JUST CASUALLY SLIPPED IN THE MUSIC FROM THE ROOM AND THOUGHT NO ONE WOULD NOTICE AHAHAHA
Fortnine, do you ship your products to UAE?
Might wanna check out Bohn riding armor. They have a cool mesh that flows air well and I've crash tested it, saved my right leg from the knee down. I'm NOT a salesman just a convinced user.
"Castratingly skinny jeans"
Most mesh jackets include solid ballistic nylon (or other abrasion protection) on the outer forearms, shoulders, and sometimes portions of the back. So I don't see the advantage of the armored shirt. Both have similar impact protection, both have similar abrasion protection. The shirt keeps the armor in position better but the jacket is easier to take on/off (and looks better IMHO).
Righht, safety. I know how to do that
Best motorcycle channel on youtube, Ryan is slightly wasted here, love to see you guys make some educational videos about climate change
Okay now do the same video but for people on a budget I can't afford a $300 pair of pants and I can't afford a $200 jacket
I squid... Carefully. Would like to get some armor so I can get more enthusiastic with a higher chance of surviving, if something were to go wrong. Thanks much for the great info
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of stuff that’s covered by these videos I care about, but I watch the ones about products and motorcycles I don’t give a shit about because they’re all super entertaining. By far best motorcycle content. Way better than revzilla.
"If someone wants to risk putting there body on a motorcycle, they can risk wearing what they like." I wish everyone had this mentality.
Everyone knows the real cool guy way is to just cut the fly out of your pants.
"settle down" 😂😂😂
Really like this channel. Ever thought about doing a neck protection review, is there any out there worth my precious cash? Love the scripts, might be fun to add a translation for dorky ol fifty somethings like me. The part where you asked the Icon lawyers and riders something was good, I think I know what it was but can't be sure and I forget easily, I think.
Can you review the harley davidson Breakout, the indian scout and indian scout bobber please?
This is great, thank you! Awesome production, interesting style, and as always - good info.
I'm sure you've been asked this but I haven't seen it. You've owned both a V-Strom and an F800. Which do you like better? Or is that even that easy of a question to answer?
love your videos, even if you are from YA HEY DER CANADA,. question for ya about riding pants. Carhart and Wrangler make a pair of jeans for oil workers. they are heat resistant to a certain OSHA standard. are they any good for riding. How about doing 1 of your comparison tests. A Red Blooded American
I really like your channel. And I don't even own a bike.
Same here, I notice riders a lot more when out driving now.
Can we get an update on casual warm weather gear in 2020? I've got a badlands set and they are too much to mess around with when I need to get some milk.
I got a big motorcycle accident yesterday and i can't walk💔wear protection please💔
