Small bike. Big deal. Is it the first truly capable small ADV? Or just another half-hearted effort, carefully designed not to offend bigger siblings? [Details below]

  • I am buying it. not going to ride it on that heavy offroad conditions and I am not going to jump or stand riding. Looks better than the Duke in my opinion and costs almost the same in my country so that is my decision.

  • Good video and I always enjoy Ryan's stuff. Issues brought up include peg angle, bar position and ground clearance (and cast wheels). First, nearly every ADV rider dials a bike into their egos, and replacement pegs (rather for the angle as in this case, or just for size) and risers/bars are among the first upgrades. Ground clearance is not bad for a light ADV bike, especially considering that the wheel base is shorter than the big bikes. Does this compare with a 790 ADV R? No, it doesn't have the suspension, wheels or power. But it's also half the price and 90 lbs lighter. It's also barely half the price of a 690 Enduro. This bike is probably the best VALUE in the ADV world. 7" of suspension travel isn't ideal-but it's not bad for the purpose of an ADV bike (not a "dual sport" or "plated dirt bike"). I have a 1290 SAR and am thinking of trading for one-looking for something smaller, lighter, and not $18,000 to go bounce around in the dirt. Frankly, I don't take the big bike some places I used to go on my smaller, lighter bikes. If you're using the full capabilities of a 690 E or 790 R, this probably isn't the bike for you. If you want to blast through the desert at 100mph, get a 1290 SAR. But for getting out and exploring the backcountry, on pretty rough forest service roads or ATV trails, on a bike that is fairly light (by ADV standards, not "dual sport" ones), with a good bit of technology (personally I could do without ABS or TC, but it's not a bad thing) this looks like it might be a good fit. Both for new riders looking to give ADV riding a shot, or for older, experienced riders getting a little "past our prime" (such as me). Looks like a pretty good BDR bike, IMHO.

  • How much would it cost to upgrade the suspension, tires, bike geometry of the 390 Duke to be adventure ready? Oh but then you’d be left with the same problem with the pegs and handlebars. Hmmm. Oh, but wait! What if you just upgraded the pegs and added handlebar risers on the ADV? Yea, that’s what I’m gonna do!

  • Thank you Ryan and team for all your hard work on these fantastically produced videos which are helping me cope with the lockdown by feeding my powersports & levity needs. Look forward to hitting the road again next Spring (hopefully) on my '08 Suzuki WeeStrom for a west coast trip after my first long adventure to Winnipeg, CA! If you do ever travel down through the states you'd do well to avoid North Dakota, its a very bleak, flat, straight ride.

  • I imagine the KTM marketing team giddy while watching this video, right up until the last minute. I think a more diminuitive rider with less adventurous aspirations could put some aftermarket pegs on the 390ADV and have a good time for not a lot of money. I'm glad that the industry is embracing lighter and more nimble 300-400 cc adventure bikes. I've been wanting one since the mid 1970s. They're perfect for the riding I want to do.

  • To be fair I think the intent markets are not Europe or the US. They see that BMW got some attention in India and Thailand with the 310 and they counter with the 390 line. For most Asian, African and South American markets this is considered a serious adventure bike. It makes the Brand accessible for those who usually stuck with 125 or 150 Honda Bikes.

  • Ask yourself a question, will what your spending so much time doing matter in 200 years. Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me”. Therefore unless your time is spent forming and growing a relationship with God, it is meaningless. salvation comes from faith and trust in Jesus Christ our saviour (from ourselves and and eternity separated from him). Trust that he died and rose again taking the punishment of the sins of the world so that we can be clean of our iniquities in front of an almighty God
