Invisibility Training for Motorcyclists

It’s a little known feat outside our circles but given that motorcyclists have the power to be invisible to other road users, we thought it would be worthwhile to know how to turn that setting off. Here’s part-time magician Ryan who has suddenly regained the power to speak since the last video. It's a miracle!

  • So, by this reasoning, is the Aerostitch Hi-Vis yellow - lime full suit a not so good choice of riding apparel ? I've been wanting one for years and am trying to work out good colours for the contrast colour patches . I am thinking a bright green or darker green as I like Aussie colours, Your opinion please.

  • Personally, I prefer to be invisible and dodge the cars. If they see you, they can fixate on you and hit you. Ever notice that 9 out of 10 vehicles that run off the road hit a light pole, even though they're at least 100 feet apart?

  • Like his format. But at 4.50 in an urban area he said that 1/3rd of collisions occur in those areas whereas in the UK some 2/3rds of all collisions occur in urban [ town ] streets, mainly arterial roads which carry more traffic and the remaining 1/3rd occur out on the faster country roads. So beware riding in towns either commuting or delivering fast food. You are more likely to be collided with by other vehicles and suffer some degree of injury. But on faster country roads the dangers can be individual ones on overtakes, bends, inappropriate speeds and positioning that can cause collisions with cars or the roads surface and they can be mo serious and re deadly due to the impact speeds.

  • You Nailed it ! well done... I call it complacency while driving .... look... but it doesn't register is the biggest cause of vehicle accidents.... the usual refrain of "I didn't see you" is always the excuse ! and with a bike it is deadly ! so you plan on the guy not seeing you.... look at his eyes ! if he just glanced at you chances are he didn't really see you..... Plan on that !!!!!! I like to joke and say when I have been out for a ride that I spend an hour dodging cars.... simply because it is your job to dodge them if you value your life and property.... driving defensively is a MUST on a motorcycle.... if your driving Aggressively you are NOT driving defensively ... Period !

  • Car driver here. This happened to me just the other day. Fortunately, I have developed good habits as a driver and I always double (at a minimum) check before I pull out. I looked left, saw nothing, looked right, it was clear, looked left again and there were a pair of motorcyclists which appeared out of thin air. And they were not traveling fast, barely the speed limit by the time I saw them. They were their when I first looked, they just did not register in my brain. I am happy to report that I did not in the slightest create a near miss for them or myself. I waved as they past, and they waved back, then after checking a third time I made my turn and went on my way.

  • I actually had this happen to me yesterday. The old guy pulled out, he didn't hit me, i saw him and had time to move out of the way, was only going like 30 mph. I was watching his head the whole time, never even looked my way. Funny thing is I followed all Ryan's steps, my bike is red, i was wearing white, red and black reflective gear, and was honking, guy never even looked. Lol. I couldn't be mad though, as angry as i was, i wanted to pull over and just show him the dash cam video of him to show him what he did wrong, but you know how people are, they would probably get defensive.

  • Drivers are taught not to hold up other traffic, to stop only when necessary. Drivers are trained not to stop and look. Hell I’ve seen cars pull out on a bright yellow bus and the driver claim (from a hospital bed) that they didn’t see it!

I pulled out in front of a guy whilst on holiday overseas in my hire car. Yes, he was speeding, but I just did not see him at all. Fortunately he saw me, and saw that I didn't see him, and just rode around me. I apologised when I caught up to him at a set of lights. It happens people, be diligent when you're riding.
