  • The v rod is very similar to the Yamaha v max which was way faster. Probably why the v rod wasn't popular, like the Harley it is, it couldn't go fast enough

  • Any motorcycle made for the American, European markets is all about who's got the biggest dick. Motorcycles at their truest essence weigh 60 kg soaking wet, displace 90 cc, and have three people and two chickens on them. We are all headed to the same place someday.

  • Okay, yes, this information isn't wrong, and arguably has an effect on horse power (though a lot is dependent on many other factors in engine architecture, and how you want that power to be applied). However, you're missing the biggest two items here. Air flow and compression ratio. The Harley's running its old standard 9.5:1 ratio, while the Indian's running at 10.7:1. That's a massive difference. Harley also has a very restrictive intake and exhaust system, choking the power down. Those two items are responsible for very nearly 100% of the power difference. The Sportster is absolutely capable of the same, or higher numbers, and Harley absolutely knows how to make it get those numbers stock from the factory. But Harley does this to its entire line of bikes; low compression and restrictive intake and exhaust. Why? For better or worse, Harley has the philosophy (and to be fair, it's been pretty historically accurate) that they can make a lot more money off their customer base by upgrading the bikes after the fact. Most brands can't talk their buyers into shelling out $20k for a bike, and then dropping another $10k in upgrades to get it to make power. Harley can. It happens everyday in every Harley shop across the globe. Harley's plan is to sell you the bike, and at minimum get you to buy a freeflow intake and exhaust. They're hoping to get you to buy over-sized jugs, a stroker fly-wheel set, and hi-flow high-compression piston and heads with anywhere from 10.5:1 to 11.5:1 compression ratio.

  • Here's a message to the audience of this otherwise amazing video. Everything technical he explains on the chalkboard is dead wrong. It shows an incredible lack of foundational knowledge. Similarly, his comments about torque, rpm, cooling, and pushrods are grossly uneducated. So, please do not repeat them to anyone else unless you'd like to discredit yourself just as badly as FortNine has sadly done here.

  • There are people who appreciate a low motorcycle with a low seat height. Small people, especially women, need a motorcycle they can fit on. A motorcycle designed for an average man with a height of 5' 10" and a 36" inseam will have no problem with a normal height motorcycle. A short person with a 30" inseam needs a low motorcycle. That is who will appreciate the Indian with its low height. Sometimes nostalgia is a beautiful thing.

  • Most every day riders will never find it necessary to rev to 8300 rpm in a metro area like NYC. I have a Dyna thats over 20 years old I ride about 5 to 7 thousand miles each season depends on weather. My bike starts every time. Brings me to my destination. Does it in the style I like while so many of the people I know who went for a "better bike" are hardly ever out riding. One thing goes wrong and they never ride again, plus Did they really buy a better machine or did they get a better price, free saddle bags, a rebate, zero percent finance thanks to moms credit and a reach around. If we like an air cooled motor that is reasonably easy to work on why compare to us. Why not compare this bike to bikes that produce more HP at 8300 rpm. Because this thing will get smoked. I'll repeat myself 1 more time. Most of us never rev our bikes to anywhere near 8300 rpm or find ourselves in a situation to do so. At a lower rpm Ill take the 1200 Sportster any day over the Scout on the tough streets of NYC. The bike looks like a toy under a grown man and the engine looks plastic. The real test is time. let's see how in 20 years and 50,000 miles how this bike and the 43% holds up. I'm still waiting for the guys with big mouths from 15 or 20 even 30 years ago to show back up with there over 50,000 miles plus bikes. Where are they? You never see them. There either in long term storage or bikie heaven.
