  • No, having multi faced LEDs is not the way to go for reflector housings. The housing is designed for a point source of light which both halogen and HIDs offer, there are some LEDs that have very small chips but they are generally more costly, but the beam pattern will remain stock and not blind other drivers.

  • Due to the reflector not being designed for a led you will never get a proper legal and safe reflection. There's a reason we don't have legal LED for cars and bikes when it comes to headlights, so be mindful of that.

Brighter is great but the LED longevity saves me money and installation time on avoided future bulb replacements, and not having a headlight burn out an an extended adventure ride is priceless. And in that direction, there is nothing smaller than mountain bikes. So, please move towards more coverage in that direction. thx. I am a common man, and I no longer ride motor cycles, as I have moved smaller, to a machine more fitting for the common man, the commonest of all common mens. thx There is a lot of us out here, waiting for your coverage.

  • I totally agree, bulbs can make a world's difference... I have a Suzuki gn 125 2012 model, but because its a modern day classic it still has the old 35w incendecent bulbs, which is as bright as a candle... So I modified it to accept a H4 halogen bulb which worked a lot better, however the halogens combine with the round headlamp lense produced only a small bright spot in the road... Then I bought a H4 led bulb of Banggood(as they are very expensive locally) they are extremely bright and blinds oncoming drives, but atleast I can see

  • I have a scooter with an AC powered BA20d base H6/S2 bulb. I was able to replace it with a BA20d base LED bulb rated for AC (internal rectifier?) or DC. The bulb has LED elements at locations which mimic the filaments of the original bulb so the headlight reflector geometry still works. It's much brighter but it does flicker a bit. The downside is that there are no headlight modulators that run on AC and very few that work with LEDs so I may be converting it all over to DC.

  • LED bulbs and headlights almost always have poor CRI and tint. CRI is kind of the balance of colors that make up the final tint. It may look white, but so do old school fluorescent tube lights. They look like they're missing something, and that's because they are. Then there's tint. It's rare these days to find either one with a tint below 6000K. I'd love to see a manufacturer to charge more for great LED's, which for me would be 4500K and CRI 95+. Although going as low as 3500K may work better at reducing glare off of rain and fog. Beam pattern is another big issue. Retrofit HID and LED bulbs change the beam pattern, especially in reflectors that were made for halogen bulbs, although people using only notice the cutoff getting worse, if that. LED headlights might have a decent cutoff if you picked a good light, but most will have a poor beam pattern, especially the white label chinese lights. Hopefully the LED situation changes soon, but for now the best upgrade still seems to be retrofitting HID projectors. If you ever come across a LED motorcycle headlight that has 3500-4500K tint and CRI 95+, please review it.

  • I am all for a bright headlight but am not a fan of the LED and HID craze that we have now. In a few years time perfectly good bikes will be scrapped because of the cost of replacing failed stock LED/HID units. The cost of replacing these is much more than even the most expensive bulb. We bikers rightly complain about overly bright car lights especially when they are not aimed correctly. What about overly bright dazzling bike lights ? Remember, if you are in the eu, any bulb or headlight unit must be "E" marked. Anything cheap from China will not be....

This whole headlight fiasco by car manufacturers to stand out from the crowd is becoming dangerous. It needs to be reigned in and regulated. Some headlights are particularly dazzling, Acura’s for example, and that’s an observation shared by a lot of people.

  • The problem with LEDs as a retrofit is that it's tough to get one that doesn't look bug-eyed, even in a round bucket. My Monster S2R800 had a 8" round headlight with a horrific glass fresnel lens, so a drop in LED bulb wasn't a good option.. and the LED projector drop-ins ruined the classic look of the bike. I ended up retrofitting a round mini HID projector into the stock bucket with a LED halo around it to fill in the blank space and keep the round-headlight look, even during the daytime. Lights up the road and ditchline extremely well with brilliant white light and a sharp cutoff on low beam.. admittedly more complex, but I've had a lot of people say that it fits the "modern retro" look of the bike so well that it could have come from the factory that way. If there was a LED projector module that would've worked as well I would've preferred the simplicity and longevity, though!

  • LED's are great, but there is a lot more to it then just put a LED in and done. It should match the original light point for correct reflections from your reflector housing. And more. The guys from "Headlight Revolution" have tested LOTS of lights and know a lot about it. So before buying a LED on Wish or something, check their guides as well ;) The LED Ryan used in his video isn't good. But for this video's purpose it's good enough. You should NOT buy a triple (or more) sided LED, but just a two sided LED that is really thin ("...match the original light point...")
