  • My 2021 resolution was to avoid using my credit card but ....I think I'll get that Arai XD4 in hi viz 👍

  • Problem with the arai is the non-optically correct shield and lack of sealing on the top of the shield. Also not enough detects for opening, that that’s probably unnecessary because you’re vision is distorted when it’s partially opened.

  • Enjoy your channel Ryan. I have reviewed your helmet posts and am more confused then when I started, can you help me out? I have ear damage and need a quiet helmet for Dual Sport riding. Like the Scorpion Exo950 (and the price) but would go with the Arai XD4 or Shoei Hornet if the acoustics were noticeably better. Thanks! MC

  • i tried a Scorpion AT950, absolutely hated it after 2 months, cheap feeling modular, started falling apart rather quickly..the metal lock tab fell off, rubber trim came unglued and the antifog was not worth much...going to buy an Arari XD4 tomorrow hope its up to my standards

  • I'm so tired of looking for a helmet that works. Seems like if you shop at a level that works well at most things you get a visor that is dangerous to use at night, which I hear is the case with the arai xd4. Thats a dealbreaker for me. Seems the market and even this channel is dominated by people who only ride in clear conditions and I'm so frustrated trying to find something thats both good and safe.

  • No Shoei X2 on this list? Hmmm. Shoei like Arai are both top of food chain. Both Arai and Shoei’s are meticulous about fit and fitment and without compromise. Which ever helmet fits you best should drive one’s choice as both Arai and Shoei are equal.

  • I really think the Shark Explore-r should have gotten something of an honourable mention for it's shear versatility, and in my opinion the best goggle system in any adv hat. The purpose built goggles, whilst being louder than any visor, are near enough tolerable to just use on the road all the time which really makes it unique in it's class. It's also fairly light, comfortable & ventilated.

    • yes FortNine is a great channel, but this list doesn't completely hold up 2 years later with certain helmets now being completely different, like the Klim Krios Pro with Koroyd, a fidlock , and a transitions visor honestly make the xd4 a hard sell when you consider their prices. I just bought a Schuberth E1 and an AGV AX9 plus an iridium shield for less than a Arai XD4 graphic. Doesn't make the XD4 any less of a great helmet, but plenty of people still bitch about it on the internet (which I guess is the case for literally everything). But the truth is you probably need more than one helmet if you're an adventure rider and they're are helmets out now, like the ax9 and the hornet X2, that do things better for certain riders. For example those 2 helmets I just mentioned work really well without the peak and they actually look good in that configuration. Personally I just feel they should edit the intro to this video and write a note saying this video is from 2018 and the market has changed haha.

  • You see... I actually ride my dual sport bike as intended. Smashing through the un-tamed wild. And when you do that, you are going to scratch/ding/chip your helmet into raggy condition in no time. My point is, I can't see any reason in hell to spend SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS on a helmet I'm going to destroy.

  • Excellent reviews and we'll put together 👍 you've made me want to shell out for the arai now 🙈 do you know of a good helmet with flip down sun visors/glasses. Having to wear sunglasses squashed under a helmet are pretty uncomfortable. Really like the idea of some flip downs which I've never owned.

  • The E1 is crap. The peak visor is a flimsy vibration prone POS. Fogs badly even with the pinlock. Cheap garbage plastic pins break easily. It craps the visor covers like it was designed to do it. Worst helmet purchase I ever made.

  • The Arai XD4 does everything perfect except for the optical distortion at the middle to bottom portion of the lens. Thus rendering your vision useless and causing minor motion sickness. The Arai XD4 looses all points because of that.

  • If you want a cheaper Klim Krios and don't care about the name: Nishua Enduro Carbon. Got one a couple of months ago for 199€ (~$199,000, i guess), and it's based on the same Uvex molds as the Krios. It has more standard, narrow carbon weave, but also super lightweight and technically identical features.

  • I took the scorpion adventure helmet battlefage colour. It's a really good product. The unique issue is with the pinlock that tends to move down, losing the sealing. So you have to push it above to make sure that it remains in position, this happens probably due to the high curvature of the visor. For all the rest is a very good product, for the right price. I'll probably rebuy it. For it was better than my previous agv compact.

  • Owned an Arai XD4 for almost five years now. The vent switches are starting to lose their ghost and the back of the helmet has always been hot: I've never really had much luck getting airflow over the top of my head. Admittedly, I have long and thick hair. All that being said, I'm purchasing another one once this one hits its anniversary. It is absolutely the most comfortable adventure helmet I've ever owned and the highest quality. Worn it on multiple cross-country trips. Not sure I would call it perfect, but definitely a solid 9.8/10. Plus the hi-viz model can be seen from the International Space Station.

  • Did a multi-state adventure ride on a light adv bike last year (DRZ400), and decided to use my Bell purely off-road helmet for the ride. I've had the helmet for a couple of years and it is great for off-road use. Light enough with good air flow. As it turns out, off-road helmets don't make for particularly good adventure helmets. Air deflection is terrible at road speeds and dangerous in crosswinds. Noise is awful and exhausting after 8 hours in the saddle and rain is nothing short of painful. After four days of suffering, I stopped at a small motorcycle accessory store in western Colorado desperate for a change. Selection was limited. They had very few adventure style helmet options and what they did have landed at both sides of the spectrum. Super cheap, and then the Arai XD4. I dropped $650 on the XD4 and had my Bell shipped back home. They XD4 changed the entire nature of the ride and improved my mood substantially. Rain, wind, technical riding in Moab - didn't matter. What a GREAT helmet!

  • Fun fact, the Klim Krios is basically the same helmet as the Nishua enduro carbon helmet sold in Germany from (they are the sole distributors of this helmet as louis bought the UVEX motorcycle helmet division some years ago). It is also the same helmet as the BMW Enduro carbon helmet (not sure if that one is still being sold). The Klim might have a different weave but the premium price they are asking is an insult for what is definitely not a "new" helmet.
