Ryan’s take on Yamaha’s idea of a continent crusher - the Super Ténéré. With quite a legacy to live up to and a market full of incredible big ADV motorcycles, we give the Super Ténéré 24 hours to prove its mettle.

Love this channel!
"2018: You are here" haha I wish
"The oil tanker: it's massive, unmaneuverable and - just like the bike I'm riding - isn't actually an oil tanker." (Hint: oil isn't unloaded with cranes and grain silos are too leaky.)
I've heard it's much easier to lift a bike facing away and doing a squat while grabbing the sunframe and fork or crash bar. Wouldn't know tho, I'm a street guy who's never dropped.
Have got a 2016 anniversary model it’s a great bike my wife and I love it 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿.
Super Tenere is a tank, All the bike I want, and can pack a ton of camping gear
The tyres you have are not for dirt, just saying
You cant ride very good.
No personality?? REALLY!! Super Tenere the best motorcycle you can buy. your week.
... and because of this video i test rode a used 2016 that was loaded with everything offered, already flashed and pipe... Now that ive had it 4 months and 3 thousand MILES... EASY. The old guy (Im 51 so i can call him old) i bought it from spent thousands on aftermarkets including a Russell ALL Day seat and when i rode from Texas through Tennessee taking the Tail of the Dragon, moonshiner, skyway along with many more epic roads all i can say is Easy and never got tired, sore or ready to get off. This bike runs hard and to me coming from a DL1000 VStrom it seems much faster. And the one issue.... Weight when its laid down.... Yep... It has two things i hate. 1 is the gear indicator... Pull in the clutch and you have no idea what gear... So at a light ya better be sire your in 1st. 2 dont have a button to turn off traction control or antilock. Other than that. I love this bike.
Ten-nay-ray...👍🏻
I miss my ST... I miss it every day.
Enjoyed the video. The Super Tenere was designed to be the means to the end. The trusty steed that will take you across endless miles to all the places you have dreamed about.
If there is anyone doing a better job reviewing motorcycles and associated subjects I certainly haven't come across them Thank You
Dude. I just happened upon this vid because I was looking for info about this bike, but this is a kickass vid. Are all your vids this informative?
horsepower is so low
i have bought 2012 used and didn't receive it yet but the driver cover footrests (rubbers) are missing so is it will obstruct me while shifting ??
Super Tenere is the best motorcycle I ever owned
I think this is one of his worst reviews. He pushes a ride mode button and all of a sudden the ride is "booooorrrrring"? Come on guy!
09:33 "low unsprung mass" --> shaft drive *lol*
If there was a video like this for every bike out there buying would be easy! Great video, I will have to give this one a test drive 👍🏻
Owned one of these for a few years. Still miss it. It is the best bike for me (6'6") it was ugly as the back end of a Rottweiler, could be dowdy in touring mode, but take off the traction control and put it in sport mode and it was great on dirt roads and gravel. I avoided sand in the weighty beast but it did better than I expected in mud because she just kept pulling through. Super comfortable on the freeway too, maybe a little dull but still I ran out of balls before it ran out of throttle. I had the 2013 and I really enjoyed it. If you are looking for a big adventure bike, I feel like this is a great alternative to the overpriced GSA and mine came with a better warranty and longer service interval on the motor.
I rode the first gen for a while. It is a great bike. Much more reliable than others. All those 1200 cc softroaders are heavy. Just buy it especially if u get a good deal
Simultaneously claiming that the center of gravity makes it feel like a 650 and that it's impossible to pick up. If that center of gravity were that low, you would be effectively picking up a 650 there, chief.
Great video as always. What's the beat at the very beginning of the video called?
Some French police cities have already this bike on their fleets man they look great on the highway
I sold mine a couple years ago... have had three bikes since and I've always regretted selling the S10. Getting another one asap!
Yamaha Oh Yamaha please send the wonderful tenure 700 engineers designers over to the super tenere department and come back in one year with a Super really superior tenere.oh and by the way choose any of these engines 900 gt or what ever you have in mind .
weight also improves traction
Conclusion: The Tenere is too comfortable you hate it.
brutal, you have made a magnificent analysis of an indisputable maxitrail icon

I love the Super Tenere. It's bad and uncomfortable. But when you get used to it it's just the perfect blend of bad but somehow good. Its just my type.
I have zero interest in risking my life on a motorcycle but riding does look fun and I immediately became addicted to this channel. So intricate!
What a horrible review.... on top of that it was full of commercials. Don’t waste you time watching this flip flop review.
Hey Ryan! I was wondering when would you guys put a Honda Crosstourer to the test, specially on the off-road side? 🤔
@Tommy Angelo it is available in the USA since 2016 as the Honda VFR1200X. "Crosstourer" is the label is has in Europe (and maybe Asia?) since its debut in 2012. It is also available in Canada; since I've seen some reviews of it made by Canadian Honda dealerships. The bike is the heaviest of the segment (277Kg wet, according to Honda), among all brands; 20Kg heavier than the Super Tenere. It is also the one with less electronic driving aids (only ABS and TCS), even in the most recent updates. But it has a really awesome Honda V4 V-tec, making 136bhp (on the European version). The thing is, regarding my proposal to the channel, there isn't any review of this bike pushing it to limits off-road. Not even the guys from Revista Motociclismo in Italy, whom have been testing it in its first years in North Africa and Eastern and Southern Europe, were able to dedicate a long and profound experiment to the bike, such as the ones Ryan usually does. Ryan is probably the most unbiased reviewer in the whole LTworlds; and I love this bike but I'm not sure about its capabilities, dispite the enormous quantity of reviews I've seen about it. So it would be awsome if Ryan could/would do it.
Pretty sure that bike is not available in North America.
Ryan are you French Canadian? Just curious
Ok, folks, here’s a little personal note: from the begining of september, I’ve watched this vlog at least a dozen times and I read ALL the comments below a couple also. Ryan and you all convinced me: last Friday (October 2th), I made THE MOVE! Adios to my beloved FJ-09, 2015, here’s comes the new queen! Allready rode about 500 km this weekend (around 80 on backcountry gravel roads) in rain, sun and windy conditions and... THIS review is spot on accurate! The STénéré is everything as described: easy, dull, easy, grippy, easy, lazy, easy, aggressive, easy, heavy, easy, torquy, easy, speedy (S mode), easy etcetera. Easily the best all terrains bike I ever rode. Easily the best motorcycling move I’ve ever made. And I should have trusted my intuition, way back in 2017, when I decline the S10 in favour of the much sportier FJ. It would have been so... easy! Ride on!
I love your videos very creative and informative. Great cinematography and funny commentary keep them coming. I will spread the good word. Today Canada tomorrow the world.
Reminds me of my buell ulysses xb12x.. id never take it off road
Perfect review - as always. And the Super Tenere - it is really easy to ride motorcycle. It was first bike I rode "officialy" after receiving driving license. With literally no experience - I was able to ride it flawlessly on roundabouts and with 110mph on highway (yes, 110mph, with high windshield it was pure pleasure). I ride a "small" Tenere (XT660Z with ABS, not available in North America), and I am still dreaming about the Super Tenere :) I've tested the tenere 700 - doesn't suit me as the 660 or 1200 are :) One day I will own a S10 ;)
Watching this in 2020 I love that you put this year as the end of the timeline. It certainly feels like the end.
I like to call it the Yamaha Terrare because it eats everything in front of it
I never thought I’d find a bike more comfortable than my 2019 FLHT THEN I rode a 2018 Super Tenere. Never going back. And all the people whining about the ST being heavy need to go pick up a fallen H-D. ROTFLMSAO!
While I'm sure that "boring" isn't something that Yamaha likes to hear in a review, frankly, I liked what I heard about the Tenere and if I was in the market for such a bike, I'd be giving it serious consideration.
I purchased one brand new, had it 3 months. Disgusted! The engine snatched and hunted on neutral throttle due to emissions control, the engine sounded like it was thrown together from a distance, the gearbox, crude and rough sounding. The bike was comfortable to ride but crudely executed. Traded it on a BMW R1250 GSA. The best thing I did, love the bike now.
I’m looking for a comfortable tourer. I had a GS1200 & a Diavel. Diavel was just as comfortable. I ride a XSR900 now. As soon as the borders open, I’ll be looking at a touring bike. It’s between a FJR1300 or the Tenere. Your thoughts please guys
LOL I'm starting to like this guy... :-)
I got the opportunity to ride one last week. Oh my God how great and agile it is on off road. I would prefer it over a GS every Sunday morning.... On off road only.
By the way, you never cease to amaze me in terms of your honesty and production skills. Kudoz.
If only the new Africa 1100 Adventure Sports wouldn't came out, this would be my bike for life.
The driveshaft is the reason why i picks the Super Tenere over African Twin.
Love this channel. Keep it up!
I felt the same way about the engine when I test rode one from a dealer, then I test rode one being sold privately that had been remapped to remove all restrictions, lower the fan temperature and unleash another 20bhp. I was so impressed with it I bought it. I've been riding 35 years and have owned and ridden everything from pizza-delivery bikes to 200mph+ missiles and the S10 is one of the best bikes I've had.
I've been riding sport, touring, and off-road motorcycles for 59 years and have owned many different brands and styles of bikes. My 2016 Super Tenere is the best I've owned for many reasons, but isn't an off-road bike, at least not for me and not at my age (70). Long distance touring with my wife on the back are what this thing was made for, especially when you factor in the crappy highways we are seeing in parts of the USA now. The only complaint with the Super Ten I have is that, like many street motorcycles I've owned, the suspension is set up for a 160 pound rider with no passenger and no luggage. That's easy to fix and is my next project. This baby is a keeper. Thanks for an honest review.
I have owned a Super T ES for over 5 years now. It is the most underrated ADV bike on the market. I love the bike. (I always ride it in touring mode, not humpty dumpty) I always liked “boring “bikes that are easy to ride. SV650S for street and track or the DRZ400 or WR250R for dual sport, just bikes that are “easy” to ride. I also own a KTM 350 EXC-F for more aggressive off road riding, and it is not an “Easy” bike.
It is just one of the best Bike reviews in LTworlds. Generally all what f9 does is good!
Excellent and superb review as usual and so succinctly put together via your brilliant editor 👏. If only, oh if only it was about 20 to 30 kg lighter then I would have been able to handle it with my 5`5" and 30" inside leg! 😂
I like this bike and you know your stuff, cheers from Italy 🇮🇹👍
DAMMIT!!! Now I want one. But I also want the 700, and the Trimph triple...
After searching long and hard for my next adventure bike, Ryan sells me on the Super Tenere. It checked all my boxes and after riding my new 2019 S-10 I'm in love. Thanks Ryan!
Hello all I have read some of your comments and yes the ATM is faster ( automatic teller machine ) But you will need to carry a machine around to draw money for all your expensive repairs instead of putting fuel in the bike and riding. In South Africa the ATM is a popular bike until the warranty runs out. Yamaha super tenere for life
What I've learnt about bikes from a million videos is if you want a motorbike figure out what type of bike you want and just go with what looks the nicest. every bike seems to be good enough according to every reviewer. all of them have their own character which if you like it enough you will definitely be happy about although if its not Japanese, just be ready to take it into the shop often
XTZ 750 1990 mod with moore power is my best mc :)
His timeline ended at 2020. Our timeline will end at 2020.
I’ve come back to re-re-re-watch this video. Never disappointed. Always impressed. Fine work! Almost like you did it for the Vine
I want to buy a big adv bike. Thought I settled for an Africa Twin but this bike kinda wants to change my mind because of the price differences... Anyone help me out pls
Word !
Hands down, the best large adventure bike in the world.
Just bought a demo 2019 Tenenenenere with 300 miles for good price. I used to own a 2014 model, that unfortunately was a 2013 model registed late, and didn't have the engine improvments and cruise control of the actual 2014 model, and that engine was DULL. I got the ecu flashed, which wasn't easy, and it was so much better. Yammy originally limited power in 1st/2nd gear, which was a bad idea. At the time I loved this machine, and that's coming from someone who was driving it in to central London everyday in crazy traffic, and I could hustle this thing through gaps scooter riders wouldn't dare go through. Just don't mess the balance point up, cos when this thing topples over at slow speeds, you can't stop it. Cue 2020. I flirted with MT-09, ZZR1400, Honda CBF1000 mistresses. With each new bike, much to my surpise I pined for the ST. WTF? I missed the comfort of the riding position, the lugagge I could carry, the do almost anything ride, it's effortless ownership, and the shaft drive, wow i missed the shaft drive. The engine in the 2020 model feels completely different, much more lively and responsive than before. That extra HP in the top end really makes a difference, although sometimes on the motorway when you jwant to pull away you can be in thw wrong rev range to get the top end power from 6k+ revs. I think they changed the torque/HP ranges a fair bit in some update. Sport mode is quite snatchy, but personally I have a slick enough wrist control and I enjoy lurching off the red lights like I'm riding Aslan in to battle to the astonishment of all the sports riders who are trying to get their revs up as I beat them to the first gap in traffic which puts me at the front of the next set of lights. Win. WIn. I love how under rated this bike is, it keeps the insurace premuims down, the realibility is legendendary, it's more relaible than all the solid state devices I've owned. It's super cheap to service, doesn't have complciated expensive eletronics, and best of all, you only have to do the big valve clearance service every 24k miles! That's insane! If you want big adv bike but don't want to pay big adv bucks, this is the best choice hands down. Of coruse there's lighter, better handling bikes, which I dearly love and respect, but I have to drive this bike every day in terrible UK weather which melts most bikes down to a fine powder of rust residue like a straberry milkshake in the Sahara, This bikes goes, keeps going, goes everywhere, goes well, and like a lucky charm, stays when the theives come looking for bikes. Thank god this bike is so underrated. My mate's BMWs have been stolen, and they walk right past this bike, so every day I can drive while my BMW buddies are either waiting on the garage or the insurance payout.
Fantastic write up, it convinced me that my next bike will be a Super Ten. I'm driving a GS but I'm finding out that I'm not a fan of personality either.
hey guys I have choice between this T1200 2016 or Triumph Tiger 1200 2016, same year model, same miles, both for 9k , what would u suggest ? thanks
1:53 NO NO AND NO ! ur back dude, ur back !
Just picked up my Super Tenere.... because of this video! Easy is what I want!
Ten er ay. Tenner A. Ten air ay.
Doesn't make sense, If the CG is low, why is it so hard to pick up??
Unless you live near Alaska or something... ADV bikes are a waste. Why put up with (and pay for) DIRT BIKE features.. if you don't go Off-Road? The factories have foisted these things on us as the "New Standards".. I don't DO dirt roads. All I want is a modern Bandit 1200 or ZRX.
Dammit dammit dammit ! Now I can't think of my 2013 Super Tenere as anything other than "The Super Tanker" ......
I find it perfectly fitting that the end of the time-line was 2020 with nothing after
would you take this or the 700 model just released?
Hey. i was at the point of buying the supertenere or the vstrom 650 ... i got the Vstrom thou .. thanks to you
A fan of your hard work. Love the language you use. Poetic and flowing. 👍
Awesomely put it! #respect
I hungarian guy basically translated this video, and claims his own. You can find him in a nickname of Vattas. Thank me later, he copy paste every Fortnine test out there. (In the video you can have Eng Sub as well es Hungarian Dub.)
RIP Paolo (06:50)
I’m curious how you would review the Moto Guzzi v85TT
Really good review
You just sold me on the Tenere 🤙🇺🇸 now my search begins.
It is definitely heavy!! I was sitting pillion in this bike. We we’re stationary and my husband dropped the bike! I got slammed into the ground and got a broken sacrum. Eek. Still in pain and stuck at home a year later 🙁.
That would happen under any modern adventure bike’s weight. Don’t blame the bike.
So after watching I'm taking it that the bike is great other than it handles like crap???
No, actually it doesn't handles crap. It is quite flickable. I own one, and loves curvy roads. It handles better than my XT660R I owned before
This channel is just the best motorcycle content available on ReactionarykeyboardwarriorTube. I watch everything they produce even if I'm not interested in the actual product just for the witty, insightful commentary and unbiased opinion. 10 out of 10 guys, SUPERB.
Thanks to this video, I sold my KLR and drove 3.5 hours with a trailer to buy a Super Tenere without having even seen one in person. No regrets.
